How do I ‘quantify’ my confidence?
When we use The Confidence Equation, we can be pro-active with our confidence, in and out of work.
YOU wiLl LEARN
In this module, you’ll be guided through a recorded workshop where I step through the three elements of confidence and how to build your own Confidence Equation.
In The Confidence Equation we discuss:
Evidence: Quantifying our outcomes and achievements.
Validation: Feedback from people we respect and admire.
Self belief: Having clarity on what we want, that we can do it and we deserve success!
KEY CONCEPTS IN THIS MODULE
How does confidence work?
Confidence isn’t a personality trait. It’s a skill you can improve on, any stage of your life.
WhenEVER We go through a time of change, our confidence takes a knock. WHY?
Our hard-wired craving for certainty means we are more likely to question what we think we know. It’s a perfectly natural side effect of growth.
As a result, we need to proactively seek evidence of success and validation, and actively work on the relationship with ourself. We can use The Confidence Equation to bring us comfort during times of change and take control of our experience.
For example:
When we have evidence of our success our confidence skyrockets. It reminds us of the ‘facts’!
When we have genuine feedback from people we admire, respect or whom are doing what we’d love to one day, we feel validated and trust it.
When we have clarity on what we want, that we deserve what we want and the belief we have the capability to get there, our confidence solidifies.
These three pillars, together, create authentic confidence.
Any time your confidence experiences a pause or a dip, check in with yourself and ask which of the three categories could help with a top up.
Let’s get started.
Create evidence for your equation with an ‘Achievement Audit’.
achievement audit exercise (quick exercise)
One of the quickest ways to top up our confidence is to review our achievements in an Achievement Audit. This helps see our contribution on a page and calculate its impact. This helps us see external evidence of our achievements. It also shows us how we’ve grown and progressed. Completing an Achievement Audit is one way you can reflect on your accomplishments.
Reflecting on what you have achieved in the last 12 months will astonish you. Here are helpful prompters we use:
What are you proud of completing, continuing on with, finishing, moving towards or away from, in the last 12 months? What achievements might you be able to capture?
What was the result? Was there an impact?
What did you learn as a result? What did it reveal?
It’s also helpful come performance review time or to share with people you love. Another benefit? When it comes to crafting or updating your elevator pitch, you’ve got meaningful achievements ready to go.

Source validation by reaching out to people you respect.
VALIDATION EXERCISE (quick exercise)
Documenting validation from people you admire who respect you, is a great way to boost your confidence.
You can formally go out and source feedback to give you data and confirmation or informally source feedback and validation from people in your network whom you respect.
A great way of creating a validation list is by asking:
Do I respect this person and see their judgement as sound?
Do they have expertise/exposure to an industry or area I’m keen to get validation in?
Has this person achieved what I want to do one day?
Is this person on my team?
Is this person capable of hearing me without casting their own doubts, negativity or insecurities?
If the answer is ‘yes’, the validation will be so much more meaningful.
